The Stardust Sessions were recorded in 1958 at a time when John Coltrane was still establishing himself as a leader. Musicians were Wibur Harden on trumpet, Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums. Prestige Records issued this excellent version of Invitation on the 1958 The Standard Coltrane with three other tracks from the session and spread the others out on other recordings. When Fantasy Records acquired the Prestige catalog, they hired Orrin Keepnews to figure out how to repackage the recordings. So he decided to release The Stardust Sessions in its entirety in 1975. Concord Jazz recently acquired Fantasy Records and released a 6CD box set of Coltrane's Prestige recordings called Fearless Leader. There doesn't seem to be any video footage of Coltrane's Prestige recordings but Concord has issued a trailer for Fearless Leader and here it is.
