Artist:Wayne Shorter
Song:Charcoal Blues
Album:Night Dreamer
Wayne Shorter is one of the all time greats of the tenor sax and he has been a key figure in the development of jazz since the 60s. He started out with Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers but was already recording his own music. Night Dreamer was his first album on Blue Note in 1964. Musicians include fellow Jazz Messenger Lee Morgan on trumpet, McCoy Tyner on piano, Reggie Workman on bass and Elvin Jones on drums. Blue Note released a remastered version in 2005. Shorter was a key figure in Miles Davis' invention of fusion music on Bitches Brew. He left Davis in 1970 to form Weather Report with Joe Zawinul & Miroslav Vitous. He had a bit of a dry period after Weather Report ended in the 80s but came back better than ever in the 90s with the help of old pal Herbie Hancock. Shorter still tours and records great music for Verve. His latest CD is Beyond The Sound Barrier in 2005. Here's a video of Wayne Shorter with Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers in 1965 performing the Shorter composition The Summit with Lee Morgan & Bobby Timmons.
