This song was a huge hit in the early 70s and broke the three minute barrier for hits on Top 40 radio. I remember people trying to figure out what the song was about and radio stations giving out lyric sheets to listeners. It was basically about the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Richie Valens & JP Richardson and how it affected the music business negatively. McLean had another big hit in Vincent but he is remembered today mostly for American Pie.
It's official. I'm getting my new power chair today. We'll make the switch at Lyndhurst. I can't wait.
