AccuRadio Song Of The Day-The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

Artist:The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

Song:The Impression That I Get

Album:Let's Face It

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are a mix of Jamaican ska and punk. It's known as ska-core. The 1997 single The Impression That I Get was their biggest hit. As a WWE fan who also knows music, I am asked about Sami Zayn's theme music all the time. His theme is ska which was invented in Jamaica in the 60s. Ska underwent a revival in the 70s through British groups like The Specials. And The Mighty Mighty Bosstones revived ska in the 90s. They are from Boston. Lead singer and main songwriter Dicky Barrett was a member of The Cheapskates. Bassist Joe Gittleman was a member of the punk band Gang Green. They decided to form The Mighty Mighty Bosstones which is a Boston reference. Other members were Tim "Johnny Vegas" Burton on sax, Nate Albert on guitar, Josh Dalsimer on drums, Tim Bridwell on trumpet and dancer Ben Carr. Barrett was a big fan of the British label 2 Tone and ska groups like The Specials and The English Beat. So he wanted to emulate that music. It was a good idea because no one else was doing it at the time. After releasing a couple of albums independently, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones signed with Mercury Records in 1993. They brought producer Paul Q. Kolderie with them. By this time Dalsimer was replaced by Joe Sirois and Bridwell was replaced by Dennis Brockenborough on trombone and Keven Lenear on sax. The Impression That I Get is from the 1997 album Let's Face It. It was their third album for Mercury, The single topped the Modern Rock chart and the album was certified Platinum. This would turn out to be The Mighty Mighty Bosstones' greatest success. Universal released a couple of comp CDs that are out of print. Let's Face It is available on CD. They faded after this. I think the 1998 sale of PolyGram to Universal may have hurt them. They were moved to Island Def Jam for the 2000 CD Pay Attention. They left Universal and released the 2002 album A Jacknife to a Swan on the indie label SideOneDummy. Then they went on hiatus. They returned in 2007 and they continue to tour and they just signed with Hellcat Records. A new album will be released in May. Here's the video for The Impression That I Get by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
