AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Daughtry

Artist:Daughtry
Song:Over You
Album:Daughtry

There are those who believe that Chris Daughtry should have won the 2006 edition of American Idol. But he didn't and he formed the band Daughtry and he had success with the debut CD Daughtry and three hit singles including Over You. He has had diminishing returns since then. Daughtry has a new CD coming out shortly. Chris Daughtry was born Dec. 26, 1979 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. Before American Idol, Daughtry was lead singer of Absent Element who released a CD in 2005. He also auditioned unsuccessfully for Rock Star: INXS. Then he successfully auditioned for AI. After appearing on the show, Fuel invited him to be their new lead singer. But obviously Daughtry wanted to use AI to front his own band. He finished fourth though it was thought that he should have won. Then he formed Daughtry and he signed with AI's label 19 Entertainment. They held auditions and the main guys to come out of that were guitarist Josh Steely and bassist Josh Paul who are still in the band today. The 2006 CD Daughtry topped the Billboard Hot 200 and it was certified 4XPlatinum. It's Not Over, Home and Over You were all top twenty hits. Over You reached #18 on the Billboard Hot 100. Daughtry wrote most of the songs on the album. He wrote Over You with Canadian songwriter and producer Brian Howes. The album was recorded before Daughtry was formed so the musicians are different. The girl in the video is Jessica Szohr from the TV series Gossip Girl. The band has been touring regularly since 2007. Daughtry's 2009 CD Leave This Town was certified Platinum but there were no hit singles. And his subsequent albums have declined in sales. Daughtry's new CD V will be released this fall. I think it is doubtful that decline will stop. The question is does Daughtry have a strong enough fanbase to remain on a major label. He has had a better career than most AI contestants but the decline was inevitable. Here's the video for Over You by Daughtry.
