Artist:The Mowgli's
Song:San Francisco
Album:Waiting For The Dawn
Here's a band that has been getting a lot of buzz recently mostly because of this very catchy song San Francisco. I was looking to do them as song of the day a few weeks ago but Waiting For The Dawn hadn't been released yet. Of course The Mowgli's are named after the character in Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. A friend of the band had a pet wolf named Mowgli. The Mowgli's are from the San Fernando Valley in the Los Angeles area. They already were playing together as part of a music collective but decided to turn it into a band in 2009. Guitarist Michael Vincze, guitarist Colin Dieden and keyboard player Dave Applebaum were long time friends and other members are Katie Earl on vocals, Josh Hogan on guitar, Matthew Di Panni on bass, Andy Warren on drums and Spencer Trent on percussion. The music is clearly 60s influenced folk rock. They released the CD Sound The Drum independently last year. This got them a contract with Island Def Jam. San Francisco was released on an EP and it's gotten a lot of airplay on alternative and college radio. The Mowgli's have also appeared on Conan O'Brien. I heard San Francisco a few weeks ago and I wanted to feature it but the new CD hadn't been released. But Waiting For the Dawn was released on June 19. Those who are fans of 60s influenced bands like Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros should check out The Mowgli's. They seem to have a bright future if they stay together. Here's the video for San Francisco by The Mowgli's.
