AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Camera Obscura

Artist:Camera Obscura
Song:Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken
Album:Let's Get Out Of This Country

Camera Obscura is an excellent indie band from Scotland. They have had modest chart success in England. They are led by the very talented lead singer and songwriter Tracyanne Campbell. She formed Camera Obscura in 1996 with guitarist David Skirving, bassist Gavin Dunbar and percussionist John Henderson. They released a couple of singles in 1998. Then Skirving was replaced by Kenny McKeeve and they added keyboardist Lindsay Boyd and drummer Lee Thompson. They signed with the Spanish label Elefant and released the CD Biggest Bluest Hi Fi in 2001. Camera Obscura got a big break when legendary DJ John Peel liked them and supported them. That created interest in England and they got a US record deal with Merge Records. Boyd was replaced by Carey Lander. Camera Obscura toured internationally after their 2003 CD Underachievers Please Try Harder was released. Henderson left after the tour and John Peel died in 2004. Peel's death was a big blow as he was a big deal in England. Camera Obscura released Let's Get Out Of This Country in 2005. Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken was the first single. It's an answer to the 80s Lloyd Cole & The Commotions song Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken. The song played over the opening credits of the 2007 film P.S. I Love You starring Hilary Swank. Camera Obscura switched to 4AD Records for the 2009 CD My Maudlin Career and they released the CD Desire Lines last month. If you're not familiar with them, here's your chance to check them out. Here's the video for Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken by Camera Obscura.
