AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Black Lips

Artist:Black Lips

Song:Can't Hold On

Album:Satan's Graffiti or God's Art

The band Black Lips is a mix of garage rock, psychedelia and punk. If that's what you like, this could be for you. Certainly, it's not commercial music. They are from the Atlanta suburb of Dunwoody, GA. They were formed in 1999 after guitarist Cole Alexander and bassist Jared Swilley left the band The Renegades and guitarist Ben Eberbaugh left The Reruns. Alexander and Swilley were known for crude antics on stage and in school to the point where both were expelled from school. College student and drummer Joe Bradley joined a few months later. They self released a 2002 album produced by Eric Gagnon, bassist for The El Caminos. Then Eberbaugh was killed in a Dec. 2002 car accident. They signed with the indie label BOMP Records and released a 2003 album of previously recorded songs as a tribute to Eberbaugh. Jack Hines joined as the new bassist. He appeared on the 2004 album We Did Not Know the Forest Spirit Made the Flowers Grow. He didn't want to tour so he soon left and was replaced by Ian St. Pe, a music major at the University of Memphis. He dropped out of school to join the band. They released a couple singles and an album. They signed with Vice Records for the 2007 album Good Bad Not Evil. Yes, this a division of the TV network Vice. Black Lips recorded for Vice for ten years until Vice had financial problems. Can't Hold On is from the 2017 album Satan's Graffiti or God's Art.  This was Black Lips' final album for Vice. This album was produced by Sean Lennon at his studio in Los Angles. His mom Yoko Ono made a guest appearance. The album is available on CD. By this time, Alexander and Swilley were the only original members. Black Lips signed with the British label Fire Records. An album was released in 2025. Here's the video for Can't Hold On by Black Lips.
