Here's the fight video of Raquel Pennington defending her UFC Bantamweight Championship against Julianna Pena from last night's UFC show in Salt Lake City. Of course most fans didn't want to see this fight. They kept asking why Julianna is getting a title shot. And the answer is the UFC promised her a title shot before she got injured over two years ago. It's the same as the Jon Jones situation. They want to keep that promise. Of course fans don't want to hear that. It didn't seem to bother Raquel much. She's wanted to fight Julianna since TUF 18. The problem was not only was the fight not very good but it was the number one casualty to night long judging problems. I expected this fight to go the distance. I don't think either fighter can finish anymore. Both are over the hill. For all her talk, Julianna can't fight anymore. And she made the mistake of not going to Utah in advance to get used to the altitude. So I expected Raquel to win. And she looked pretty good in round one. Julianna got a takedown near the end of the round but she didn't advance her position. So I scored it 10-9 for Raquel. I thought Julianna won the second and third round and Raquel came back and won the last two rounds. So I scored the fight 48-47 for Raquel. And that's the way everyone scored the fight except two of three judges. For example, MMA Decisions posts media scores and 48-47 for Raquel was almost unanimous. First we can't blame home town judges. All three are UFC regulars. Derek Clearly scored it 48-47 for Raquel like the rest of us. But Sal D'Amato and Mike Bell both scored round one 10-9 for Julianna and that gave Julianna the win by split decision. She doesn't care if it's a cheap win. Now she wants Amanda Nunes to return though I think Kayla Harrison is her next opponent. Those two guys were the only ones who thought Julianna won that round. And it had to be two of them. Because if it's only one, Raquel still wins. So there you have it, a lousy fight with an even worse decision. Enjoy the video!
