Artist:William Michael Morgan
Song:I Met a Girl
Album:Vinyl
Country singer William Michael Morgan was 19 years old when he signed with Warner Bros. After the 2015 single I Met a Girl was a top ten country hit, it looked like he was going to be the next big thing. But he only released one album for Warners and now he's on the comeback trail. He was born May 13, 1993 in Vicksburg, MS. His parents listened to classic country music and Morgan especially enjoyed the music of Marty Robbins. At age nine his parents bought him a guitar. Morgan taught himself to play and by age 12, he was performing in public. Then he formed a band and released an album in 2006. He moved to Nashville at age 18 and signed with Warner Music Nashville. His producer was Scott Hendricks who is EVP of A&R at Warner. He is best known for producing Brooks & Dunn. Jimmy Ritchey was co-producer and played guitar on the album. I Met a Girl was released Aug. 2015. It reached #8 on the Country Singles chart. This was followed by an EP in Mar. 2016 and then the album Vinyl in Sept. 2016. That was probably too lengthy of a lag time and I suspect listeners forgot about Morgan by the time the album came out. Morgan wrote a couple of songs on the album. I Met a Girl was written and originally recorded by Sam Hunt on his 2013 mixtape Between the Pines. His co-writers were Trevor Rosen of Old Dominion and veteran songwriter and producer Shane McAnally. Morgan recorded a second album. But after releasing a few singles, Warners decided to shelve the album. They told Morgan he needed a more commercial sound. But he didn't want to change and he left in 2019. Morgan is still around. He has released a few singles on his own label. He may be reluctant to sign with a major label. Here's the video for I Met a Girl by William Michael Morgan.
