Artist:CAB
Song:Dennis
Album:CAB 2
Fans of jazz fusion are going to want to check out CAB. The band was formed in 2000 by veteran jazz bassist Bunny Brunel. Brunel was born in Nice, France. He moved to the US in the late 70s to join Chick Corea's band. Tone Center Records approached Brunel about forming a band with guitarist Tony MacAlpine and drummer Dennis Chambers. MacAlpine is a rock guitarist who was interested in getting into jazz. Chambers is a veteran sideman best known for his days with John Scofield in the 80s. Brunel called the band CAB. It's supposed to be an acronym but Brunel thought Tony's last name was Alpine. The fourth member of the band was veteran British pianist Brian Auger. He led the excellent fusion band Oblivion Express in the 70s. Brunel wrote most of the songs including Dennis from the 2001 album CAB 2. This album was nominated for a Best Contemporary Jazz Album Grammy. The album is available as a digital download. Auger was replaced by Patrice Rushen and Chambers was replaced by MacAlpine's buddy Virgil Donati. CAB's most recent album was released in 2011. Brunel recently released a Christmas single. He's still a busy sideman but I would not be surprised to see him revive CAB at some point. Here's CAB with Bunny Brunel, Tony MacAlpine, Patrice Rushen and Virgil Donati performing Dennis 2005.
