Artist:Lisa Fischer
Song:How Can I Ease the Pain
Album:So Intense
Legendary background singer Lisa Fischer topped the R&B chart and scored a top 20 pop hit with the 1991 single How Can I Ease the Pain. Then she returned to background singing. So Intense is her only album to date though she tours with her band Grand Baton. I saw her a few years ago. She was born Dec. 1, 1958 in Brooklyn, NY. She started singing backup in the late 70s with groups like Kleeer. And she was a one time member of Change which also included Luther Vandross. Lisa toured with Vandross and appeared on all his albums. She began touring with The Rolling Stones and she still tours with them. Meanwhile Vandross got Lisa a record deal at Elektra. The album So Intense was released in 1991. The single How Can I Ease the Pain topped the R&B chart and reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. Lisa wrote and produced the song with Narada Michael Walden. He produced three songs on the album and Vandross produced four. A second single charted so Lisa is not a one hit wonder. And Lisa won a Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance. So Intense is available as a budget CD. There was supposed to be a second album. But record company management changes forced Lisa to leave Elektra with the expectation she would sign with another label. When that didn't come through, Lisa simply returned to backup singing. She continued to tour with The Rolling Stones, And after Vandross died, Lisa began touring with Tina Turner. When Lisa appeared in the 2013 Oscar winning documentary 20 Feet from Stardom, she decided to start touring as a solo act with JC Maillard and Grand Baton. I saw her a few years ago and she is currently on tour. Go see her if she's coming your way. Lisa still tours with The Rolling Stones and she works on other stuff. I would like to see her record an album with Grand Baton for Concord or Blue Note. I know it would be great but I don't see it happening. Here's the video for How Can I Ease the Pain by Lisa Fischer.
