Artist:Basia
Song:Astrud
Album:Clear Horizon:The Best Of Basia
Listening to Basia, you might think she's British. She actually does come from the British music scene but she was born Barbara Trzetrzelewska Sept. 30, 1954 in Jaworzno, Poland. She started out in Polish rock bands in the 70s. She moved to London in 1981 and was lead singer for the popular group Matt Bianco. They had somewhat of a jazz vibe to them. In 1985, Basia and Danny White left Matt Bianco so she could go solo. She had her biggest success with her 1987 debut album Time And Tide which went platinum. Of Course Astrud is Basia and Danny White's tribute to legendary Brazilian singer Astrud Gilberto. Basia continued to have success on the jazz and adult contemporary markets. This comp has all her hits. She quit the music business in 1998. But Danny White and Mark Reilly convinced her to return and Matt Bianco reformed for the 2004 CD Matt's Mood. Basia returned as a solo artist with the March 2009 release of It's That Girl Again which has reached #5 on the jazz charts. If you've never heard Basia, you should check her out. Here's Basia performing Astrud.
