Jango Song Of The Day-Hank Locklin

Artist:Hank Locklin
Song:Please Help Me I'm Falling
Album:Nipper's Greatest Hits: The 60s Vol. 2

The 1960 hit Please Help Me I'm Falling was the only pop crossover hit for country music legend Hank Locklin. His high tenor remained popular in the country market in the 60s but he faded in the 70s. He was born Feb. 15, 1918 in McLellan, FL. The long recovery after a school bus accident allowed him to master the guitar at age 8. Locklin wandered around until he formed The Rocky Mountain Boys in 1947. He had some success with Four Star Records in the early 50s including a #1 country hit Let Me Be The One in 1953. But his big break came when Chet Atkins signed him to RCA Records in 1955. Atkins produced and played guitar on all of Locklin's albums and Floyd Cramer played piano. Locklin had 70 singles chart on Billboard's country music charts including six number ones. But Please Help Me I'm Falling reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was his only top ten pop hit. The song was written by Nashville veteran songwriters Don Robertson & Hal Blair. They also wrote Ringo for Lorne Greene. Both songs are on this RCA various artists comp but RCA released a good Hank Locklin comp in 2003 as part of their RCA Country Music Legends series. Locklin faded in the 70s and left RCA in 1977. He didn't record much after that but continued to perform regularly on the Grand Ole Opry. Hank Locklin died on Mar.8, 2009 at age 91. Here's Hank Locklin performing Please Help Me I'm Falling on the Grand Ole Opry TV show 1962.
