Yahoo LAUNCHCAST Song Of The Day-Seals & Crofts

Artist:Seals & Crofts

Song:Diamond Girl

Album:Greatest Hits

People find it hard to believe that 70s soft rock staples Seals & Crofts were also responsible for The Champs 1958 classic Tequila. These days fans want to know what happened to them. Jim Seals was born Oct. 17, 1941 in Sidney, TX. Dash Crofts was born Aug. 14, 1940 in Cisco, TX. They toured with The Champs from 1958-65. They joined a couple more bands until deciding to record as a duo in 1969. Seals played guitar, sax & violin and Crofts played drums, mandolin, keyboards & guitar. They recorded a couple of albums for the Talent Associates label. It revealed their tremendous harmonies but the label was too small to promote them. But it got them a contract with Warner Bros. and they had five best selling albums from 1972-76. Diamond Girl was a top ten hit in 1973 and the album also topped the charts. This Greatest Hits comp has all their hits. They had faded by the late 70s and were dropped by Warner Bros. in 1980. In recent years, they have devoted a lot of their time to the Baha'i faith. Seals & Crofts have reunited occasionally mostly at Baha'i events. There's a clip on Youtube of them performing with Dizzy Gillespie at a Baha'i event. Crofts recorded a solo CD in 2000 but they're not really in the music business anymore. But Seals & Crofts were very big for a few years. Here's Seals & Crofts performing Summer Breeze on ABC In Concert in 1974.
