Gospel artist Donnie McClurkin has had major mainstream crossover success with We Fall Down. He was born Nov. 9, 1959 in Amityville, NY. He grew up in an atmosphere of abuse but was saved by an aunt who was a background singer for gospel music legend Andrae Crouch. He formed his own group called the New York Restoration Choir and later was hired as an asociate pastor for Marvin Winans' Perfecting Church. He signed with Warner Alliance and this 1997 debut CD was the result. Stand was the big hit but Here With You is another excellent McClurkin song. Producers on the CD included Cedric & Victor Caldwell and Mark Kibble of Take 6. Warner closed the label so McClurkin went to Verity and had a huge hit with 2002's We Fall Down. He also performs with his sisters in The McClurkin Project and had a co-starring role in the film The Gospel. Donnie McClurkin continues to have a lot of success and here's his video of the Stairsteps classic Ooh Child featuring Kirk Franklin.
