NEO has announced two matches for BEAT UP 07 Sept. 17 at Korakuen Hall. The main event has Yoshiko Tamura defending the NEO Singles & NWA Pacific Titles against Haruka Matsuo. There's nothing wrong with Matsuo but I don't think any fan believes that she a chance of winning this match. I don't think NEO GM Koda believes that either but he's been trying to convince himself on the NEO blog. Matsuo last had a title shot two years ago and Koda says she's hungry enough to beat Tamura. He also describes Matsuo as a "Future Ace". He's even suggesting that the match could be a 30 minute draw. What fans really would like to see is a Tamura/Azumi Hyuga rematch. I expect that to happen at Christmas and anything else is a stall.
The other match follows up on the July 29 tag title change. Kaoru Ito & Ayako Hamada won the titles from Yoshiko Tamura & Sakura Emi. Ito & Hamada have been in Mexico for the last month and Koda has been negotiating with them by phone. Because Tamura is busy in the main event, it has been decided that Ayako Hamada & Sakura Emi will have a singles match in the meantime. Again the match seems like a stalling tactic designed to build up to something else. I would not be surprised to see Tamura & Ito get involved in this match.
