India.Arie has been at the forefront of the Neo Soul movement and her songs of female empowerment have been very successful. She was born India Arie Simpson Oct. 3, 1975 in Denver. Her father Ralph Simpson played for the Denver Nuggets of the NBA. That would explain her height. Her mom was a singer under contract at one time to Motown. The parents divorced and mom and the kids moved to Atlanta. Whilre attending college in Savannah, India decided to get serious about her music. This eventually landed her a spot on the 1999 Lilith Fair and she was spotted and signed to Motown. Unlike a lot of female R & B singers, India.Arie has not depended on sex appeal. Instead, Motown has focused on her writing ability and that has proven to be very successful. This also means she will have a lot of longevity in the music business. I Choose is from her 2006 CD Testimony Vol. 1:Life & Relationship. She co-wrote and produced it with recording engineer Dru Castro. The CD reached #1 on the Billboard 200.
