Artist:Steely Dan
Song:Deacon Blues
Album:Citizen Steely Dan 1972-1980
Steely Dan was one of the most popular recording artists of the 70s. To call them a "rock group" is a stretch. New York jazz fans Walter Becker & Donald Fagen met in college in 1967. After an attempt to start a band with guitarist Denny Dias failed, ABC Records house producer Gary Katz signed them to a songwriting deal and convinced them to start a band. Steely Dan started as a normal touring band but by the time Deacon Blues was recorded for Aja in 1977, they had stopped touring and hired session musicians to play on their records. Guys like The Crusaders, Bernard Purdie & Wayne Shorter were all on Aja. And this "anti rock group" was still hugely popular. Becker & Fagen split up in 1981 and recorded solo but they've been back together for several years now. Citizen Steely Dan is a 4CD box set with all their ABC/MCA recordings in chronological order. It's all you'll ever need by Steely Dan.
