This weekend, all three national NASCAR series crown champions at the final weekend of the 2005 season at Homestead Miami Speedway. All three series have at least two guys contending for the respective championships.
It all starts tonight with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series. Leading is Ted Musgrave in the #1 Mopar Dodge owned by Jim Smith. In second is Dennis Setzer in the #46 Duramax Chevy owned by Morgan Dollar Motorsports. Setzer was leading the points race in midseason but has not done well recently and was overtaken by Musgrave. Setzer has to really turn it on and hope that Musgrave has problems. The race is on SPEED tonight at 8PM.
Tomorrow the Busch Series championship will be decided. Defending Busch Series champ Martin Truex Jr. in the #8 Bass Pro Shops Chevy owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr. & Teresa Earnhardt is leading. In second is Clint Bowyer in the #2 AC Delco Chevy owned by Richard Childress. Truex got a good lead during the summer. Bowyer closed the gap but has been unable to catch Truex over the last month. Truex will win if he finishes in the top ten. Both guys are headed for Nextel Cup in 2006. Truex will drive the #1 Bass Pro Shops Chevy for Dale Earnhardt Inc. & Bowyer will drive the #07 Jack Daniels Chevy for Richard Childress. The race is on TNT in the US & Rogers Sportsnet in Canada at 3PM.
The big Nextel Cup finale is on Sunday. There are four cars with a mathematical chance of winning but only two have a realistic chance. Those are points leader Tony Stewart in the #20 Home Depot Chevy for Joe Gibbs Racing and Jimmie Johnson in the #48 Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse Chevy for Rick Hendrick. It's the battle of the big box home improvement retailers. Carl Edwards in the #99 Office Depot Ford & Greg Biffle in the #16 National Guard Ford, both owned by Jack Roush, have a mathematical chance. Stewart has yet to win a race in the ten race Chase but has finished consistently in the top ten of all the races except for Charlotte. If Tony finishes in the top ten on Sunday, he's the 2005 Nextel Cup champ. And he's my favourite driver too. The race will be on NBC Sunday at 3PM.
