Song:I Wanna Love Him So Bad
Album:The Jelly Beans and Friends
I Wanna Love Him So Bad was a top ten hit in 1964. It was the only big hit for The Jelly Beans. They were high school classmates from Jersey City, NJ. Members were Charles Thomas, Alma Brewer, Diane Taylor, Elyse Herbert and Maxine Herbert. Their manager brought them to Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller who at the time were starting Red Bird Records with End Records owner George Goldner. I Wanna Love Him So Bad was written and produced by the legendary husband and wife team of Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. It reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100. After the second single charted, The Jelly Beans recorded an album. But it was never released as Red Bird concentrated their efforts on pushing more successful acts like The Dixie Cups and The Shangri-Las. Red Bird dropped The Jelly Beans and ultimately Lieber and Stoller sold Red Bird to United Artists in 1966 because they didn't like record company ownership. This Collectables CD has all The Jelly Beans recordings all produced by Barry, Greenwich and Steve Venet. The CD also has some obscure odds and ends like Bessie Banks' original version of The Moody Blues hit Go Now. It looks like the Jelly Beans recorded one more single which was written by Charles Thomas. He went on to record a couple of singles for Loma Records. Diane Taylor was a member of Barry White's girl group Love Unlimited who were very successful in the 70s. She died from cancer in the mid-80s. Here's a video of I Wanna Love Him So Bad by The Jelly Beans.
