JJ Aldrich, Nadia Kassem |
The Sydney Daily Telegraph reported this morning that JJ Aldrich vs Nadia Kassem has been added to UFC Fight Night 110 June 10 at the Vector Arena in Auckland, NZ. This show will air on Fox Sports 1 in the US and TSN in Canada but I expect this match to air on UFC Fight Pass. JJ is from Denver. Her record is 4-2. Most of her fights have been in Invicta but TUF 23 got her a late replacement call to the UFC to face Juliana Lima in Dec. That was a break for Juliana as her original opponent Tatiana Suarez got injured. Juliana's main offense is lay and pray. Any good fighter will avoid that. Not JJ. She lost by unanimous decision. I saw JJ in Invicta. She's nothing special. Nadia is 21 years old from the Sydney suburb of Wentworthville, Australia. She trains at Australian Top Team in Sydney. Her record is 5-0 on the Aussie regional scene. So even JJ Aldrich is a big step up in competition for her. Fighting in front of her family and friends could bring on a major attack of the UFC jitters. She's won all of her fights with strikes. This is the kind of fighter that even if you watch any of her fights, the competition level is so low, nobody can tell if she's any good. And that includes UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby. So how did she get into the UFC? Nick Walshaw of The Daily Telegraph reports that Nadia's coach/boyfriend Suman Mokhtarian's brother Ashkan Mokhtarian is also making his UFC debut on this show vs John Moraga. Sometimes it's not what you know. It's who you know. The UFC is always looking for local fighters for foreign shows. Opportunity knocks for Nadia Kassem. We'll see what kind of answer she gives.
