Marques Houston started out in the 90s group Immature and then went solo in 2003. He has had success mostly on the R&B charts and he has also had success as an actor mostly on TV. He was born Aug. 4, 1981 in Los Angeles. In the 90s he was a member of the teen R&B group Immature. They scored a top five hit with Never Lie in 1994. They changed their name to IMx in 1999. They had faded by then. When the name change didn't help, IMx split up and Houston went solo. At the same time, Houston got into acting and he's best known as Roger Evans on the 90s sitcom Sister, Sister. He also appeared on the UPN sitcom One On One and its spinoff Cuts. A lot of Houston's music and work as an actor has been produced by his long time manager Chris Stokes. He managed Immature and he continues to manage Houston. Houston's 2003 album MH was on Stokes' label The Ultimate Group (TUG) with Elektra distribution. The album did OK and the single Clubbin featuring Joe Buddin and R. Kelly did particularly well in England. For the 2005 album Naked, Stokes moved TUG to Universal. The album did marginally better than MH. The single Naked reached #8 on the R&B Singles chart. That is Houston's highest chart position to date. The most notable thing about Naked is the video was a ripoff of D'Angelo's video for Untitled. I don't think Houston and Stokes did themselves any favours by copying a very popular video. The song was written and produced by Harvey Mason Jr., Damon Thomas & Steve Russell AKA The Underdogs along with Antonio Dixon and R&B singer Tank who also contributed background vocals. Since then Houston's albums have not done as well. His latest CD Famous was released in 2013 on Shanachie. The album Naked is out of print. And this budget comp was released in 2009 only on mp3. Unfortunately Clubbin isn't on it because Elektra owns it. Houston appears on albums by other TUG artists and and he has also reformed IMx with Jerome "Young Rome" Jones and they have released a few singles. Houston is working on a new album. He released a single last fall. But the big thing is he became a Jehovah's Witness in 2016. So he spends a lot of his time going door to door with those infamous brochures. His fans were shocked by this forcing Houston to ask them to respect his decision on Instagram. It's sure a long way from Immature and Naked. Here's the video for Naked by Marques Houston.
