Julianna Pena, Jessica Andrade |
Marc Raimondi of Fox Sports reported last night that the UFC has added TUF 18 winner Julianna Pena will face Brazilian Jessica Andrade at UFC 171 Mar. 15 in Dallas. Of course most fans became familiar with Julianna on TUF 18. I first heard of her when she was supposed to fight Kerry Vera in Strikeforce a few years ago. Kerry blew out her knee so that fight was cancelled. Julianna is from Washington state and is very good friends with Miesha Tate. I like her because she fights with urgency and likes to finish. The only problem is she is a bit of a nut. Even Miesha's boyfriend Bryan Caraway admitted that. I believe Julianna has potential if she can control her emotions in the cage. Fear is a great motivator in MMA. But sometimes self doubt can creep in and cause problems. Jessica Andrade should be a good test for Julianna without The Ultimate Fighter baggage. I saw Jessica win a fight last year in Russia. That fight got her the UFC contract. In her July debut against Liz Carmouche, Jessica seemed to forget the aggression that got her to the UFC and Liz won in round two. She did a lot better in an October dominant unanimous decision over Rosi Sexton. I saw some things that she did in Russia. So maybe she was suffering from the UFC jitters in the first fight. I expect a good scrap and I don't expect it to go the distance as both fighters are aggressive finishers.
