Song:Don't Wanna Fall In Love
Album:Top Hits of the 90s: Absolute Hits
I'm sure most folks remember this song because it was a big hit in 1990. But what you probably remember most is Jane Child's goofy haircut and nose ring in the video. But Jane wrote and produced that song so she has talent. Of course her record company didn't care about her talent and the gimmickry is why she didn't last. She was born Feb. 15, 1967 in Toronto. Her father was famed classical violinist Ricky Hyslop. So Jane was a classically trained musician. And her parents wouldn't let her listen to pop music. But she listened to a Buffalo R & B radio station and dropped out of the Royal Conservatory of Music at age 15 to join a rock band. Eventually Jane landed in Los Angeles and a 1988 demo sparked a record company bidding war. She signed with Warner Bros. because they let her produce and write her own music. Don't Wanna Fall In Love reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1990. And I think most fans will recall her look in the video. Jane not only wrote the song but she played all the instruments except guitar. The song firmly established Jane Child as a dance pop star. But she went in a more rock direction with her second album Here Not There. It wasn't successful and she was butting heads with Warners over musical direction. She was dropped after two albums. You can get Don't Wanna Fall In Love on this Collectables various artists CD. Jane Child released the CD Surge on her own label in 2002. She is married to musician Cat Gray who is musical director for Wayne Brady. It doesn't look like she is an active musician anymore. I'm sure she made a lot of money from that one hit. Here's the video for Don't Wanna Fall In Love by Jane Child.
Real good song there Frank, shame to see her talent go by the wayside. I thought she had a great voice.
