Song:The White Witch Woman Blues
Album:The Lucky Ones
With their 70s throwback hard rock sound, the Canadian band Pride Tiger showed some potential with the 2007 CD The Lucky Ones. They were compared favourably to Thin Lizzy. But they only recorded one album and split up. Pride Tiger were from Vancouver. Lead singer and drummer Matt Wood, guitarist Sunny Dhak and guitarist Bob Froese were all members of the popular heavy metal band 3 Inches of Blood. Bassist Mike Payette was in the thrash metal band S.T.R.E.E.T.S. Before that all four were in Goatsblood. They formed Pride Tiger in 2005. As I said, they have a 70s blues based hard rock sound. With all the metal bands out there that sound alike, that's pretty good counter programming. Comparisons to Thin Lizzy didn't hurt them. a 2006 EP got Pride Tiger a record deal with EMI Canada. The 2007 CD The Lucky Ones got positive attention in Canada and was nominated for Juno awards. The White Witch Woman Blues got radio airplay across Canada. But Mike Payette left Pride Tiger in 2008 and they split up in 2009. Payette told The Georgia Straight the split was amicable due to musical differences. My guess is a couple of the guys wanted a more heavy metal sound and then after Payette left, they decided not to continue at all. It's too bad. They had potential. The Lucky Ones is available as a budget CD. I'm not sure what the others are doing but Matt Wood joined the heavy metal band Bison B.C. in 2011. Here's the video for The White Witch Woman Blues by Pride Tiger.
