Jessamyn Duke |
Last night Combate in Brazil reported that TUF 18 alum Jessamyn Duke will face Brazilian fighter Bethe Correia at UFC 172 Apr. 26 in Baltimore. Bethe is 7-0 and she trains at Team Pitbull in Brazil owned by the Friere brothers who both fight for Bellator. She won a split decision over Julie Kedzie in December in her UFC debut. She didn't impress me. She needs to be more aggressive and win more decisively. She seems to prefer striking but doesn't have knockout power. Jessamyn is also a striker. Her record is 3-0-1NC and she beat Peggy Morgan in her UFC debut at the TUF finale in November. But I think her close fight vs Raquel Pennington during TUF got everyone's attention despite the loss. I like Jessamyn but like a lot of strikers, I would like to see a more diverse attack. Since TUF, Jessamyn has moved to Los Angeles to train with Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler. She could learn a lot from both fighters as neither specializes in striking. But we may not find out anything new as I expect this fight to remain standing. Jessamyn may want to take advantage of her height advantage to keep Bethe at a distance. I expect this fight to go the distance but Jessamyn tends to be more active and should be favoured.
