Song:What About Us?
Album:Soul Food: Soundtrack
The R & B girl group Total had some success in the late 90s with songs like What About Us from the soundtrack of the popular film Soul Food. They split up in 2000 but have recently reunited with plans to record and tour. Total are from Plainfield, NJ with Kima Raynor, Keisha Spivey and Pamela Long. After appearing on a couple of songs by rapper Notorious B.I.G., Total signed with Sean Combs Bad Boy label distributed by Arista. There first single Can't You See? featured Notorious B.I.G. and was on the soundtrack of the 1995 film New Jersey Drive. It reached #13 on the Billboard hot 100 and #2 on the R & B Singles chart. Their debut CD Total was released in 2006. It was certified Platinum but none of their singles were top ten hits. Kissin' You reached #12. What About Us? was one of four chart singles from the 1997 film Soul Food. The top ten hit A Song For Mama by Boyz II Men was the biggest of those hits. What About Us? reached #16. The song was written and produced by Missy Elliott and Tim "Timbaland" Mosely. Both appear on the record but Timbaland's rap is not in the video. There is also a remix of What About Us? featuring rapper Black Rob on the 2008 CD Kima, Keisha & Pam. The Soul Food soundtrack is available as a budget CD. Total's only top ten hit was Trippin' in 1998. They only recorded two albums and split up in 2000. But they have reunited. Total announced in November they are recording new music and will appear on a R & B Superstar Valentines Day show in Wembley Arena in London. Keisha Spivey married actor Omar Epps in 2006 and they have two children. Pamela Long married J. Long of Pretty Ricky Sept. 2013 and she released a single produced by him. Kima Raynor recorded with her rapper sister Vita. They weren't around that long so it remains to be seen if fans will remember Total. Here's the video for What About Us by Total featuring Missy Elliott and Timbaland.
