AccuRadio Song Of The Day-My Brightest Diamond

Artist:My Brightest Diamond

Song:To Pluto's Moon

Album:A Thousand Shark's Teeth

My Brightest Diamond is another case of a solo act hiding behind a band name to retain her anonymity. Shara Nova writes and produces everything. The music is not commercial but the band has a loyal fanbase. She was born Apr. 22, 1974 in El Dorado, AR. Her father played accordion and her mother played organ in the local church. She was taught piano by her pianist uncle Donald Ryan. Shara earned a BA in vocal performance from the University of North Texas. She released a 1998 album under the name Shara. After a year in Russia, Shara moved to Brooklyn and started recording music that can best be described as chamber rock. She started playing in clubs as AwRy. She also toured with Sufjan Stevens in 2003. After that Shara decided to record as My Brightest Diamond. It looks like Stevens may have told her to be more focused if she wanted to be a professional musician. Her 2006 album Bring Me the Workhorse was released on the indie label Asthmatic Kitty. She formed a touring band and opened for Stevens. The music was more rock oriented and less experimental. This got her enough of a fanbase that she released the 2008 album A Thousand Shark's Teeth and the band toured again. So that's where she's at now. Shara writes, produces and plays all the instruments. So her albums are solo albums. Then she forms a band for touring. The music is accessible enough so Shara can do as she pleases. And that seems to be all she wants. The latest My Brightest Diamond album was released last year. Here's My Brightest Diamond performing To Pluto's Moon 2010.
