Artist:Darude
Song:Sandstorm
Album:Before the Storm
The 1999 single Sandstorm was a hit in Europe and dance clubs. It is to date the biggest hit for Finnish DJ Darude. Aside from from recording his own music, Darude does a lot of remixes and represented Finland in the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. He was born Toni-Ville Henrik Virtanen July 17, 1975 in Eura, Satakunta, Finland. He got interested in music while studying at Turku Polytechnic. He made music using his PC's tracker software. When he played the song Rude Boy repeatedly at a party, it earned him the nickname Rude Boy which became Darude. He started DJing in clubs in 1995. Then he started releasing demos to radio stations. And that led to a record deal with RCA Finland. Darude usually works with producer Jaakko "JS16" Salovaara who also produces the group Bomfunk MC's. He decided that Sandstorm should be the first single from the upcoming album Before the Storm. Once Sandstorm was a hit in Finland, it spread across Europe and dance clubs. Sandstorm sold two million copies worldwide and was the biggest selling 12 inch single in 2000. Since then, Darude has had some success on the Finnish charts but not lately. He released his latest album in 2023 on his own label. It looks like he's not working with JS16 anymore. He also represented Finland in the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. And he does plenty of remixes. Like a lot of EDM, I think this song is repetitive and monotonous. But I think most EDM is like that. It ain't for me. Most of the time there's no music video for this kind of music. At least the video for this is pretty good. Here's the video for Sandstorm by Darude.
