AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Ingrid Andress

Artist:Ingrid Andress

Song:More Hearts Than Mine

Album:Lady Like

Ingrid Andress is a singer songwriter who straddles country and pop. Her 2019 single More Hearts Than Mine was a top five country hit and a top 30 pop hit. So is she pop or country? I'll give my opinion based on how her voice sounds. She was born Sept. 21, 1991 in Southfield, MI but she grew up in Highlands Ranch, CO which is a Denver suburb. Her father was a coach for the Colorado Rockies baseball team. Ingrid learned piano as a child. She listed to Coldplay and Evanescence. She participated in high school choir competitions. Ingrid attended Berklee in Boston majoring in songwriting but she didn't like it and dropped out. She joined the a cappella group Pitch Slapped and they appeared on the NBC show The Sing Off. She returned to Berklee and earned her degree. One of her teachers was songwriter Kara DioGuardi who told Ingrid to move to Nashville. She signed with Sea Gayle Music and Kara's Arthouse Entertainment. Ingrid wrote songs for pop acts like Charli XCX. Then she signed a record deal with Warner Music Nashville and released the 2018 album Lady Like. Ingrid wrote and produced the album with songwriter Sam Ellis who had written country songs for acts like Lady Antebellum. Ingrid's breakthrough was when the 2019 single More Hearts Than Mine reached #5 on the Country Singles chart and #30 on the Billboard Hot 100. Lady Like is available as a budget CD. Before her second album, the 2021 single Wishful Drinking with country singer Sam Hunt was a top five country hit. Ingrid's 2022 album Good Person didn't do as well as the first album and there were no hit singles. So the question remains is she a country or pop singer? Based on her voice, she's probably a pop singer. But even if she is ultimately unsuccessful as a singer, she can still write songs for others. Ingrid may have to choose soon. Here's the video for More Hearts Than Mine by Ingrid Andress.
