Artist:Port O'Brien
Song:Stuck on a Boat
Album:All We Could Do Was Sing
Port O'Brien was a folk group who recorded three albums who seemed to be going places until they split up in 2011. Group leader Van Pierszalowski is from Cambria, CA. Port O'Brien is a place in Alaska where his parents met. He spent his summers there. He formed a folk duo with Cambria Goodwin and they moved down to Oakland and added a couple of musicians to become Port O'Brien. They released three critically acclaimed albums. They toured nationally with Nada Surf and Bright Eyes and they toured Europe with Modest Mouse. Stuck on a Boat is from their 2008 album All We Could Do Is Sing on the German label City Slang. Pierszalowski writes all the songs. For their 2009 album Threadbare, Port O'Brien signed with TBD Records which is a subsidiary of Dave Matthews' ATO label. That's a bigger label so that's why I say they looked to be headed places. But Port O'Brien split up in 2011. Pierszalowski formed the band WATERS and they released three albums. Then he signed with Concord's Fantasy label and released the 2018 album Countries as Van William. All We Could Do Was Sing is available as a budget CD. Folk music fans should check it out. Here's the video for Stuck on a Boat by Port O'Brien.
