Vibraphonist Jason Adasiewicz is a big part of Chicago's experimental jazz scene. He leads his own band and also works as a sideman. He was born Oct. 14, 1977 in Wichita, KS but he grew up in Crystal Lake, IL. He started out playing drums in school and even attended DePaul University for three years. But when his drum instructor showed him the vibraphone, he wanted to play it. He started out playing in rock bands but when he saw Vandermark 5 in a club, he decided to get into jazz. Adasiewicz and his wife moved to Madison, WI in 2002 where she was studying for her doctorate. Meanwhile Adasiewicz started his band Rolldown and travelled to Chicago regularly. This led to the 2008 album Rolldown on 429 Records with Josh Berman on cornet, Aram Shelton on alto sax and clarinet, Jason Roebke on bass and Frank Rosaly on drums. The same band released the 2009 album Varmint on Cunieform. The song Hide is on both albums but Rolldown is available as a budget CD. Since then Adasiewicz has released four albums for Delmark most recently in 2016. He also plays regularly in bands led by Mike Reed and Rob Mazurek. Most recently he appeared on 2021 album by Amir ElSaffar and Greg Ward. He is recommended to experimental jazz fans. Here's Jason Adasiewicz and Rolldown performing Hide 2008.
