AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Tee-Set

Artist:Tee-Set

Song:Ma Belle Amie

Album:The Heritage-Colossus Story

Ma Belle Amie was a top five hit in 1969. It was the only international hit for the Dutch band Tee-Set. They were successful at home. Tee-Set was formed in 1965 in Delft, Netherlands by lead singer Peter Tetteroo. He also wrote Ma Belle Amie. It looks like he was the only consistent member of Tee-Set. By the time Ma Belle Amie was released in 1969, the band personnel had turned over a couple of times. They had success at home but Ma Belle Amie reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. They had success at home after that. She Likes Weeds topped the Dutch chart in 1970. The success of Ma Belle Amie begins and ends with veteran producer Jerry Ross. He wrote The Supremes' I'm Gonna Make You Love Me with Kenny Gamble. And he produced Bobby Hebb's Sunny while he was working for Mercury Records. He started Heritage Records in 1966. And though he had some success with that, he went to Europe in 1969 hunting for hits. The biggest hit to come from that was the #1 hit Venus by The Shocking Blue. He heard Ma Belle Amie in a club in Switzerland and signed Tee-Set. Then the song was a hit. Tee-Set continued to have success at home until they split up in 1975 but Ma Belle Amie was their only international hit. Tetteroo died in 2002. Ross closed Colossus in 1971. The British label Sequel has released The Heritage-Colossus Story and it is available as a budget CD. Here's the video for Ma Belle Amie by Tee-Set.
