Pianist Tamir Hendelman is mainly a sideman. But he has recorded a couple of albums that are worth checking out. He was born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1972. He started taking piano lessons at age six. Hendelman moved to the US in 1984. Then in 1986 he won Yamaha's National Keyboard competition. Concerts in Japan and Kennedy Center followed. Hendelman studied at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA and then he studied at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY and earned a Bachelor in Music Composition. He was musical director at Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts in Salinas, KS. Hendelman moved to Los Angeles in 1996 and has become an in demand sideman and studio musician. Since 2000 he has been a member of drummer Jeff Hamilton's band and the offshoot band The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. He has also appeared with Natalie Cole, Barbra Streisand, Tierney Sutton, Roberta Gambarini. Michael Buble, John Pizzarelli, Gladys Knight and Diana Krall. Hendelman has recorded two albums as a leader. Israeli Waltz is an original composition from the 2010 album Destination on Resonance Records. Musicians are Marco Panascia on bass and Lewis Nash on drums. The album is worth checking out. That is Hendelman's most recent album as a leader. But he seems satisfied with being a sideman on all kinds of projects. Here's Tamir Hendelman with Marco Panascia and Lewis Nash performing Israeli Waltz at Spazio's in Sherman Oaks, CA 2010.
