Think you have heard everything? Of course everyone knows William Shatner as a Canadian born ham actor and star of Star Trek. But did you know he has been singing since the 60s? I featured his 1968 album The Transformed Man on the blog a few years ago. That album is notorious for his campy versions of current pop songs. In recent years he's been hanging around Nashville and he became good friends with Brad Paisley. He released the country music album Why Not Me produced by Jeff Cook of Alabama in 2018. Shatner appeared at The Grand Ole Opry Feb. 15, 2019. While he was at it, Shatner decided to record a Christmas album. He is recording for Cleopatra Records. The album was produced by keyboard player Jurgen Engler who started out in punk bands in Germany and bassist Adam Hamilton who has worked with Shatner before. This punk version of Jingle Bells features legendary punk musician Henry Rollins. Other special guests include Brad Paisley, Joe Louis Walker, Todd Rundgren, Elliott Easton of The Cars, Rick Wakeman, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Iggy Pop and Judy Collins. So if you're looking for something different in your Christmas music, this might be for you. On his latest album The Blues, Shatner covers classic blues with guests like Steve Cropper, Albert Lee, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter and Arthur Adams. I'm not joking. Here's a video for Jingle Bells by William Shatner featuring Henry Rollins.
