\Mary J. Blige fans will be interested in this 2013 Christmas album. But it will also appeal to those who enjoy Christmas music. Do You Hear What I Hear was released as a single. There were reports in early 2013 that Mary was recording a Christmas album. The album was produced by David Foster who is Chairman of Verve Records. It was Mary's first album on Verve and also her first time working with Foster who has produced Christmas albums for Michael Buble, Rod Stewart and others. It was also her final album for Universal. She moved to Capitol in 2014. She had been with Universal for her entire career. I would describe A Mary Christmas as a traditional Christmas album. Mary doesn't try to do her usual hip hop flavor on this album. I'm sure she grew up listening to traditional Christmas music so that's what she wanted to do. As a result, critics were disappointed with the album. But it sold 500K copies which is great for a Christmas album. The album is all Christmas standards. Do You Hear What I Hear was the lead single featuring the popular British singer Jessie J. They performed it on X Factor. Mary also performed the song with Jennifer Nettles on a CMA holiday special. Other guests on the album are Barbra Streisand, Chris Botti, The Clark Sisters and Marc Anthony. As I said, this was Mary's final album for Universal. She has released two albums on Capitol but they haven't sold as well as her previous albums. Since her success in the 2017 film Mudbound, she has been concentrating on her film career.
