If you are looking for a Christmas CD, you may want to check out this Luther Vandross CD. Vandross had scored a big hit with his 1994 cover of Endless Love, a duet with Mariah Carey. The album This Is Christmas was released in 1995. Most Christmas albums are covers of Christmas standards. Six of the ten songs on this album are Vandross originals. Vandross wrote With A Christmas Heart with long time collaborator and keyboard player John "Skip" Anderson. He was a member of Lenny White's fusion group Twennynine. Vandross produced the album. The one guest on the album is Darlene Love. It was certified Platinum so it was a big seller especially for a Christmas album. This album is available as a budget CD. So normally I would recommend it. But Sony re-released it in 2012 as part of their Classic Christmas Album series. It is also available as a budget CD. It has the entire This Is Christmas album plus four bonus tracks. Two of the songs are from the 70s when Vandross recorded as Luther. There is a live duet with Chaka Khan of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. And Vandross' cover of The Christmas Song is from the 1992 charity album A Very Special Christmas 2.
