Song:Eso Y Mas
Album:Por Siempre Joan Sebastian El Poeta Del Pueblo
Singer songwriter Joan Sebastian was a legend in Mexico. His music is a mix of pop and traditional Mexican music. His first name is pronounced "xo-an'. His success was in Latin America and in the US. He was born Jose Manuel Figueroa Figueroa Apr. 8, 1951 in Juliantla, Guerrero, Mexico. As a teen, he lived in a monastery. He considered becoming a priest and planned to enter a seminary. But he changed his mind and got into music instead. He worked in an office during the day. He finally got a record deal with Musart Records in 1977. He was on that label for many years. He took the name Joan Sebastian because he lived in San Sebastian at the time. Like I said, he was very popular in Mexico for over thirty years. Eso Y Mas is from his 2006 CD Mas Alla Del Sol. Sebastian won a Grammy and Latin Grammy for Best Banda Album. He won a total of ten Grammy awards. Sebastian also starred in the 1996 Televisa telenovela Tu y Yo. Concord now owns Musart and they released the budget CD/DVD in 2016 to promote the series Por Siempre Joan Sebastian. It's a good intro to Sebastian's music. I think the video I am posting is on the DVD. Joan Sebastian was diagnosed with bone cancer in 1999. He continued to perform and record while undergoing treatment. The cancer went into remission a couple of times. But it returned in 2014 and Sebastian died on July 13, 2015 at age 64. As I said, Univision produced the 2016 series Por Siempre Joan Sebastian with a couple of Sebastian's sons playing him at different stages of his life. There were 18 episodes. Here's Joan Sebastian performing Eso Y Mas.
