Joanna Jedrzejczyk |
Several Polish web sites including Sportowefakty are reporting this morning that Joanna Jedrzejczyk has signed with the UFC and will face Brazilian Juliana Lima on UFC on FOX 12 July 26 at the SAP Center in San Jose, CA. I may not be able to spell or pronounce Joanna's name but I know this much. She may be the hardest punching female fighter since Hisae Watanabe. A lot of these girls say they punch hard. But none of them come close to Joanna. Her record is 6-0. In her latest fight, Joanna knocked Rosi Sexton into retirement on the June 7 Cage Warriors show. That fight was at 125lb. Afterwards, I figured we would see Joanna in the UFC's 115lb division pretty soon. Her manager Mamed Khalidov said Joanna wasn't dropping to 115 just yet. The plan was for Joanna to fight in Invicta and they planned to have her fight for another company in the meantime. But with a UFC offer on the table and Invicta not running a show until the fall, they decided not to wait. She signed her UFC contract on Saturday. The only problem they have now is they don't have a lot of time to get Joanna a visa. Julianna Lima was one of eleven 155lb fighters purchased by the UFC from Invicta. It was decided her English isn't good enough for her to be in The Ultimate Fighter. Her record is 6-1. Her one loss was to Katja Kankaanpaa on the Apr. 5, 2013 Invicta show. That's her highest level opponent to date. She has to prove she can beat someone like Joanna. When the UFC signed all those 115lb fighters, I didn't think they were all worthy of a UFC contract. But it was one stop shopping for the UFC. Very convenient. Hopefully, Joanna gets that visa and we get to see her punch, punch, punch. Fans love a KO artist.
