Elizabeth Phillips |
It was announced yesterday that Milana Dudieva has pulled out of her fight against Valerie Letourneau at UFC 174 in Vancouver next Saturday. She will be replaced by Elizabeth Phillips. I don't know who reported it first but I saw it via Twitter from Mike Johnston of Rogers Sportsnet. I was on my way home on the bus at the time. No reason was given for Dudieva pulling out but I have heard through the grapevine it is due to "visa issues" which means it could be anything and probably not the real reason. Russian companies are very protective of their fighters and Zuffa is usually pretty good at overcoming real visa issues. Who cares? Fight or take a hike. Elizabeth Phillips trains at Sikjitsu in Spokane, WA which is also the home of UFC fighters Julianna Pena, Sam Sicilia and Michael Chiesa. Elizabeth's record is 4-1. All her wins have been for Conquest of the Cage. They do shows in Spokane. Her one loss was to Miriam Nakamoto in San Jose, CA Sept. 2012. Maybe she has improved since then but her wins are all over low level competition. So even Valerie Letourneau is a big step up in competition because of Valerie's experience. I watched one of Elizabeth's fights on Youtube and she was too dominant to learn anything about her. You never know. A fighter could come out of nowhere and be the next big thing. But that is very unusual.
