Artist:Temple of the Dog
Song:Say Hello 2 Heaven
Album:Temple of the Dog: 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition
Temple of the Dog was a one off group formed as a tribute to Mother Love Bone lead singer Andrew Wood after Wood died of a 1990 heroin overdose. This album led to the formation of Pearl Jam and that's when the album became popular. Soundgarden lead singer Chris Cornell was a one time roommate of Wood. After Wood's death, Cornell started writing songs in tribute. He asked Mother Love Bone's Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament if they would be interested in releasing the songs as a single. They decided to turn it into an album. They added Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron and future Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready. The whole thing was recorded in two weeks. Meanwhile Gossard, Ament and McCready were forming a new band and Eddie Vedder came in to audition. That audition was the Temple of the Dog lead single Hunger Strike. And that led to the formation of Pearl Jam. Though Cornell was happy with Temple of the Dog, it seemed to get overshadowed by Pearl Jam's initial success until A&M Records decided to use that success to promote the album. Temple of the Dog was certified Platinum in 1992 which was two years after the album was released. The album was released in 2016 with a second CD of demos and outtakes. Temple of the Dog reunited occasionally and Cornell performed the songs in his own band. They toured in 2016 to celebrate Temple of the Dog's 25th anniversary. That was their only official tour.
