AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Bill Monroe and Dolly Parton

Artist:Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys w/Dolly Parton

Song:Mule Skinner Blues

DVD:Country's Greatest Stars Live Vol. 1

Occasionally I find collaboration videos and I wonder if the artists ever recorded together. This video of Dolly Parton performing Mule Skinner Blues with bluegrass legend Bill Monroe is on Dolly's Vevo channel with no description. So did they ever record together? They did not. This performance is from a 1978 TV special called 50 Years of Country Music that aired on NBC. It was three hours long hosted by Dolly Parton, Glen Campbell and Roy Clark. Shout Factory has released this on two DVDs as Country's Greatest Stars Live. So it took a little detective work but I found the original title and details on iMDb. The entire show can be streamed on YouTube as 50 Years of Country Music. So who performs on this show? Obviously the three hosts perform. Others appearing include Roy Acuff, Crystal Gayle, a Gene Autry clip, Doug Kershaw, The Statler Brothers, Tammy Wynette, Johnny Rodriguez, Ray Charles and then he performs with Campbell, Dolly followed by Monroe and then they perform together, Earl Scruggs, Loretta Lynn, Larry Gatlin, The Carter Family and Jan Howard, Carlene Carter, Merle Haggard and Bob Wills do a Wills medley, Ernest Tubb does a Jimmie Rodgers medley, Roy Clatk and Minnie Pearl do a comedy routine, Kitty Wells, The Oak Ridge Boys, Johnny Cash and then he performs with Clark, Chet Atkins and Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass end the show with a Hank Williams medley. I guess this was a big show at the time. And I think country music fans would enjoy it. At least now you know how you can watch it. Here's Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys with Dolly Parton performing Mule Skinner Blues on the 1978 TV special 50 Years of Country Music.
