Artist:Carly Simon
Song:Nobody Does It Better
Album:Reflections: Carly Simon's Greatest Hits
Carly Simon scored one of her biggest hits with Nobody Does It Better. It was the theme for the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me. The song played over the opening and end credits. The usual composer of James Bond music was John Barry. He was unavailable due to tax reasons. So Marvin Hamlisch was brought in to score this film. Of course he had a huge success with The Sting. Among other things, there is a disco version of the James Bond theme called Bond 77. Hamlisch wrote Nobody Does It Better with Carole Bayer Sager. She suggested Carly because of You're So Vain. Nobody Does It Better reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for several weeks. The number one song at the time was You Light Up My Life by Debby Boone. Nobody Does It Better was Oscar nominated but lost to You Light Up My Life. The Spy Who Loved Me soundtrack is out of print. You can get Nobody Does It Better on this Carly Simon budget comp or on a James Bond comp. It was Carly Simon's final really big hit though she would go on to success as an album artist in the 80s. Here's Carly Simon with Marvin Hamlisch on piano performing Nobody Does It Better in what seems to be Hamlisch's living room.
