Artist:The Beach Boys
Song:Little Saint Nick
Album:Ultimate Christmas
The 1963 single Little Saint Nick has become a Christmas perennial. It reached #3 on the Billboard Holiday 100 and #47 on the Billboard Hot 100 and it continues to appear on the annual holiday chart. After the success of the single, Little Saint Nick appeared on the 1964 album The Beach Boys' Christmas Album. This album was Brian Wilson's response to Phil Spector's 1963 album A Christmas Gift for You. The album has Christmas standards and five Brian Wilson originals including Little Saint Nick. Mike Love successfully sued to get a songwriting credit. Little Saint Nick is basically Little Deuce Coupe with new lyrics. Love sings lead. The strings on the album were arranged by Four Freshmen arranger Dick Reynolds. Wilson was a big Four Freshmen fan. The Beach Boys' Christmas Album is less than a half hour long. In 1998 Capitol released Ultimate Christmas. This is an expanded version of the 1964 album along with unreleased Christmas songs that The Beach Boys recorded in the 70s. It contains single and album versions of Little Saint Nick. And it's available on CD at a budget price. Here's The Beach Boys performing Little Saint Nick on Shindig 1963.
