Smackgirl held a press conference Saturday to announce matches for the Sept. 6 Korakuen Hall show to be called Queen's Hottest Matches. There will be two title matches along with the final of the Killer Queen tournament. But the main event will have Smackdown Flyweight Champ Yuka Tsuji in a special revenge match.
Of course we all know how great Yuka Tsuji is. But she has one black mark on her 17-1 record. That loss was to Brazilian fighter Michelli Tavares on the July 13, 2003 DEEP show. Tsuji will get the opportunity to avenge that loss. Her record is 5-1 and her most recent fight was a win over Yasmin Tahira at Show Fight 5 Nov. 9, 2006 in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Her only loss was to Megumi Fujii on the Mar. 12, 2005 G-Shooto show. The match will be full MMA rules. Tsuji's title won't be at stake but I'm hoping this leads to the Tsuji/Fujii match that we all want to see.
But there will be two title bouts on this show. Smackgirl Lightweight Champion Hitomi Akano will defend her title against Takayo Hashi. Hashi won an title elimination match over US fighter Sybil Starr in March. Akano won over Hashi in the 2005 Next Cinderella Tournament. Also, Yoko Takahashi will defend her Smackgirl Open Weight Championship against Open Weight Supergirls Cup winner HIROKO. HIROKO's record is 3-0 and apparently she is a dominatrix when she's not fighting. The final of the 106 pound Killer Queen Tournament will be between Ayumi "Edge" Saito & Mai. The winner is likely to be the next challenger for division champ Satoko Shinashi. All of these fights will be Smackgirl ruleswith prohibited ground fighting and the 30 second stand up rule on the ground. And JD Star Athtress Fuuka will make her first Smackgirl appearance in a year. The above pic is courtesy of the Gravity Japanese Womens MMA fansite.
