Artist:Smokie Norful

Album:I Need You Now
Smokie Norful is one of today's top gospel artists. He was born in Muskogee, OK and like a lot of gospel artists, his father is a minister. The family moved to Pine Bluff, AR and Norful studied history at the University Of Arkansas. He worked as a history instructor for four years and moved to Chicago in 1998 to study theology. Norful was assistant pastor at Rock Of Ages Baptist Church when his musical talent caught the ear of Joe Anne Brunson of the Thompson Community Choir. She asked him to appear on their 2000 CD Real. This earned Norful a contract with EMI Gospel. I Need You Now was his debut CD in 2002. Norful voice is very reminiscent of the late great Donny Hathaway. He also writes a lot of his own songs and Somethin', Somethin' was co-written and produced with Derek "DOA" Allen. Smokie Norful has established himself as one of the most popular gospel artists today. His latest CD is 2006's Life Changing. He's working a lot with veteran producer Percy Bady. Smokie Norful will be around for a long time. Here is Smokie Norful's video for I Need You Now.
