Colombian singer Karol G is a rising star in Latin American music. She's been successful since her 2017 debut album and she has also won Grammys. She was born Carolina Giraldo Navarro Feb.14, 1991 in Medellin, Colombia. At age 14, she appeared on the Colombian version of X Factor. Then she started posting videos on YouTube. She signed with Flamingo Records in 2007 and decided to call herself Karol G. She released a few singles while studying music at the University of Antioquia. In 2012, she went to Miami to meet with Universal Music. They decided not to sign her because they didn't think a woman could be a successful reggaeton singer. When her career wasn't progressing quickly enough, Karol moved to New York to live with her aunt and enroll in music business administration classes. When some of her singles started to have success, Universal Music Latino signed Karol in 2016. She released her 2017 album Unstoppable and the single Ahora Me Llama featuring Bad Bunny was her first top ten Latin hit. Karol has been riding high ever since with a string of top ten Latin hits. Location is from Karol's 2021 album KG0516. That is the date she signed with Universal. The song reached #6 on the Latin charts. The album was certified 11XPlatinum. Location features rapper Anuel AA and singer J Balvin. Karol writes and produces everything with Daniel Echavarria Oveideo AKA Ovy on the Drums. They have worked together going back to her early days in Colombia. He has produced all her albums. KG0516 is available as a budget CD. Karol's 2023 album Manana Sera Bonito did even better. Karol won a Grammy for Best Musica Urbana Album. Karol has moved to Interscope. Three singles have been released from an upcoming album. She was also named Woman of the Year by Billboard Women in Music. And she has a recurring role in the Netflix miniseries Griselda starring and produced by Sofia Vergara. All this makes me wonder if Karol has loftier ambitions like doing movies and singing in English and conquering mainstream music. That would explain the move to Interscope.
