AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Jump 'n The Saddle Band

Artist:Jump 'n the Saddle Band

Song:The Curly Shuffle

Album:Jump 'n the Saddle Band

The novelty song The Curly Shuffle was a top 20 hit in 1984. Not only was it a one hit wonder but Jump 'n the Saddle Band only recorded one album. Jump 'n the Saddle Band was a Western Swing band from Chicago. So they were similar to Asleep at the Wheel. Lead singer Peter Quinn wrote The Curly Shuffle as a tribute to Curly Howard of The Three Stooges. They released the single on Acme Records. No, that's not owned by Wile E. Coyote. They recorded it at Chicago's Acme Recording Studios and it's common for recording studios to offer record pressing as part of their service. A video of Three Stooges clips was played on MTV. When the record got too big, Acme suggested the band take it to a bigger label who could distribute it nationally. Jump 'n the Saddle Band signed with Atlantic Records. The Curly Shuffle reached #15 on the Billboard Hot 100. It probably should have been higher but there were still radio stations who refused to play records that were MTV hits. They released an album which was mostly Western Swing. That's the kind of music they usually performed. The Curly Shuffle was clearly a one off novelty song. When Atlantic wanted Jump 'n the Saddle to continue doing novelty songs, they didn't like that and left. They never recorded again. The album was released on CD in 2005. It's out of print and it doesn't seem to be on many various artists CDs. But you can get The Curly Shuffle as a digital download. Warners releases so many various artists CDs on Rhino, one would think that The Curly Shuffle would be on some of them. Anyway, it's like I always say. One hit is better than none. Here's the video for The Curly Shuffle by Jump 'n the Saddle Band.
