Billy Talent is a post punk band. They have had success mostly in their native Canada and to a lesser extent in England and the US. They are an album and touring band. The members of Billy Talent went to high school together in Mississauga, ON. They were called Pezz when they formed in 1999. Ben Kowalewicz is lead singer with Ian D'Sa on guitar, Jon Gallant on bass and Aaron Solowoniuk on drums. They recorded a couple of demos and released an album in 1999 while all of them were working day jobs. Then they discovered the name Pezz was already being used. They called themselves Billy Talent after a character in Bruce McDonald's music mockumentary Hard Core Logo. While working at radio station 102.1 the edge, Kowalewicz asked music programmer Jen Hirst to check out the band. She had seen them as Pezz. Soon after Jen moved to the Warner Music Canada A&R department. She got them veteran producer Gavin Brown and then a worldwide deal with Atlantic Records. Their 2003 debut album Billy Talent did very well in Canada and won several Juno awards. So did the second album Billy Talent II. These albums have been released on CD as a twofer at a budget price. Billy Talent has continued to have success in Canada. They will release a new album in Jan. 2022. Post punk fans should check them out. Here's the video for The Ex by Billy Talent.
